Messages of Condolence

  1. Cherry Anderson says:

Joyce was a neighbor of my mother, Betty Burns, when Mom lived at Wellington Point. I was so shocked and saddened to hear of her passing. She was always so kind and friendly to my mother and all of the women who were her neighbors. I don’t think I ever saw Joyce without a smile on her face. She visited Mom at her new apartment just a few weeks ago and I remember thinking how thoughtful that was of her-she really was a very sweet lady and she will truly be missed!

  2. Beverle Scott says:

Joyce was a breath of fresh air at the D&G where my family and I dined often. We always tried to get one of Joyce’s tables as she made our outings an added pleasure. I think of her each time I drive by the former D&G. She always had a smile.

  3. Ray Hawkins says:

I first met Joyce back in 1969 when I started working at the old Tik-Tok Restaurant on Belt Highway. It was owned by Red Wilson and it was definitely a family restaurant. The whole staff was like one big family. After I left St. Joseph, I would continue to go to Judy’s D&G and it was my pleasant surprise to find that Joyce had found a new home there. She was always my server when she was there, because we shared fond memories. I remember Joyce and her wit and warmth and smile and know that the world is a little sadder and colder without here. My condolences and prayers are with her family.

    Mark, Tim, and Debbie,

I worked with your Mom at D&G, as did my husband. You many not remember me, but I also went to high school with you, Central class of 82–maiden name Cable. Jim Cable was my Dad, he worked in catering at D&G and was a frequent customer as well. I have known your Mom for well over 30 years, and I absolutely loved her. She was fun to work with, always had a smile on her face, and never let anything get in her way. She will be greatly missed. I am so sorry we won’t be able to make the visitation or funeral, as we are leaving town tomorrow afternoon for a meeting and won’t be home until Friday way. May God be with you and your families in your times of grief.

Our family spent many hours enjoying Joyce’s company as she took care of us at D&G. We always had a good time, especially if she got off work and sat and visited with us for a while. We will always remember the cheery greetings and her kindness. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

  8. Bob Agee says:

I was so sad to hear of Joyce’s passing. I only knew her from many, many years of enjoying the D & G but she was always my favorite. Always a smile, always remembered your name, and always made you feel like she was really glad you were there. The D & G is really gone now, even if it re-opened, it wouldn’t be the same.
