We are so sorry to hear about Smitty. He was such a wonderful and thoughtful person, and he will be missed so much by so many people. He was so helpful at Edison when he worked there with me. Doug really appreciated when he let him borrow his huge trough to ice down cold drinks. He will always be remembered for his kindness and special personality. I am sure he is up there smiling that sweet smile down on us and making sure we are enjoying life as he would want us to. Take care, and please know that we will be there for you if you need anything.

Connie may the lord keep you, Crystal and all of your family and friends embraced, during this time of sadness. He may be gone physically, but he and his spirit will live on and be remembered by many forever. So sorry. Rest in peace Smitty.
There are fond memories of watching Steve grow up on Lindbergh’s playground playing all sports with all the guys regardless of how much older they were. His smile was his greeting. I pray your memories bring you some comfort during these difficult times. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of Steve’s family and friends.
Connie, so sorry for your loss. Everybody loved Steve and that great smile. I agree with Billie Sue, I think he was one of the most likeable spirits I ever knew. Sweetness radiated from him. You two, and your daughter, were so fortunate to have each other as a family. Prayers are with you, he is still with you.
I became friends with Smitty at the Brown Bear. He was always there when the Missouri Tigers had a huge game. I learned from him that he was the famous athlete at LHS that changed the MSHAA policy about players being too old to play in high school sports. Smitty had no idea that his age at the time of his senior year would force LHS to forfeit football games that year. No one did! That rule is now no longer around!
What a joy it was seeing him at the schools I would be teaching at. I always introduced him to the students as my friend that was there to fix their school. His smile for the children was hypnotic as it was for all of us.
Smitty, I can’t count the number of times we cheered for the Missouri Tigers at the Bear. I know the songs you played there on the juke box would be great classic tunes. I also loved laughing and having a great time with you.
I’ll see you soon enough, but for now it sure seems unreal that you’re not here.

Connie – I am SO sorry for this loss, and apologize for my tardiness, but just learned of it Apr 21. I’ll always remember Smitty as the biggest smile in the room. He was a GREAT fan of his FRIENDS and FUN! Going back to when I met him through Jerry Allen (USA Band) and he would come to the “fish fights,” and out to hear our bands from the early 70′s to present. He will be missed by so many that loved him. What a great guy! Bless you Connie, in this impossible time.
You showed me exactly what it means to live life to its fullest! I miss your smile so much. Peace out and I LOVE YOU SMITTY!
