Eugene C. Johnson

1928-2012

 

      Eugene C. Johnson passed away July 4, 2012 at the hospital in St. Joseph, Missouri.

      He was born August 2, 1928 to Chester Johnson and Ruth (Key) Johnson in Burwell, Nebraska.

      Gene settled with his family in Denver, Colorado working as a long distance truck driver until moving to St. Joseph in 1986. He had a pilot’s license and loved flying small airplanes and after moving to St. Joseph he took up building and flying radio controlled airplanes and joined the St. Joe Barnstormers Club. He liked to travel and after retiring spent summers camping with Good Sams and Midwest Camping clubs and winters in Texas where he had many close and valued friends.

      He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Lois June in 1988; and son-in-law, Larry.

      He is survived by wife, Dorothy; two daughters, Vikki and Jean Ann; step-sons, Alan (Amanda) and Norman (Gloria) Beers; sister, Blanche Messenger (Wally); seven grandchildren; many step grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and friends.

      Services:  3:00 P.M. Saturday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Ashland Cemetery.  The Family will receive friends 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory where friends may call after 4:00 P.M. Friday.

    I (John) was a close friend of Gene’s during our highschool days, 1943-1946. Our lives went different directions in the last 66 years but I have never forgotten that smile or Gene’s great personality. Pat and I understand what a loss you have experienced.
