
John H. Elliott
1917-2012
John H. Elliott, 94, St. Joseph, Missouri passed away July 29, 2012 at the Living Community. He was born August 26, 1917 to Joe and Eva Elliott in Clarksdale, Missouri. He graduated from Clarksdale High School in 1936. On May 6, 1941, he married Dorothy M. Wallace who preceded him in death after 67 years of marriage on June 20, 2008.
He was a member of the Brookdale Presbyterian Church. John served in the U.S. Army 6th Infantry Division during World War II in the South Pacific from 1941-1945 in New Guinea and the Philippines attaining the rank of sergeant technician. He was appointed to the railway mail service and later to the U.S. Postal Service in St. Joseph retiring in 1977.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 359, Moila Shrine Temple and Legion of Honor, and a 32 degree Mason with the Scottish Rite bodies.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four siblings, and an infant son, John Gary.
Survivors are two daughters, Carol J. Woody (Bob), Overland Park, Kansas, Cheryl Young (Kevin), St. Joseph, Missouri, and one son, Allen L. Elliott (Debbie), Pueblo West, Colorado. He also has 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
John enjoyed his family most and playing with his grandchildren, taking “cookie break” walks and just being outside gardening, fishing, mushroom hunting, and later playing dominoes and bingo. The family would like to sincerely thank the assisted care staff at the Living Community and caregivers from Tender Care for all of their care and support.
Services 10:00 A.M. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The Family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. The Family suggests memorial gifts to Brookdale Presbyterian Church.

Uncle John was a great man and was there many times with wonderful advice and support. I know my sister and I will offer prayers of comfort for his kids and grandkids
