There are several things that need to be considered when a death occurs. The order in which things need to be done usually depends on wherever the death occurred - at a residence, a public place, a care center or in a hospital.

• One of the first phone calls you will need to make is to the funeral home you will entrust with       the care of your loved one. The funeral directors at Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory are experienced professionals who can provide information and guidance.
  
  
• If your loved one wanted to be an organ donor, inform the hospital staff or the organization to receive the donations.



• If the death occurs in a residence and no one is there at the time of death, the police will need       to be notified and respond to the residence before the deceased is removed from their home



• If the death occurs in a hospital or care center, the name of the funeral home may be left with  them, and the institution will notify the funeral home at the time of the death. The funeral home  will respond and at the next practical time, review matters with the family.



• If the death occurs and a hospice provider has been assisting the family, the family should notify  the hospice organization first. The hospice representative will contact the funeral home at the appropriate time.



• Death Away From Home -- Call Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory at 1-800-366-6203, or  816-232-3366, day or night. It is not usually necessary for you to contact an out-of-state       funeral home. Doing so invariably results in additional expenses for the family. We can make         all the necessary arrangements through agents we work with throughout the country to transport the deceased to an out-of-state funeral home for embalming, preparation, and return to Missouri. All you need to do is to call us. We will need some basic information from you, and we will ask   you to call us upon your return to Missouri to set a time for an arrangement conference.
