David Thomas Smith

1939-2012

      David Thomas Smith, 72, St. Joseph, Missouri died Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Heartland Regional Medical Center. 

      He was born November 24, 1939 to Willie “Jack” Dunk and Mary Madlyn (Thomas) Smith in Avondale, Missouri.

      He married Doris P. Hutchins.  She preceded him in death in 2007.

      Mr. Smith was self-employed working in the Human Resources field.

      He was also preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Margaret Bland.

      Survivors: two daughters, Stephanie Kersey (Michael), Stewartsville, Missouri and Tammy Sue Smith; four grandchildren; one great-grandson and two nieces and two nephews.

Terrill K. “Terry” Minnick

1946-2012

      Terrill K. “Terry” Minnick, age 65, died at Heartland Hospital on February 20, 2012.      

      Terry was born September 26, 1946 in Omaha, NE, to Donald C. and Thelma M. (Turner) Minnick.   Shortly after his birth, his family moved to Spencer, IA, where he graduated from Spencer High School.   He earned an Associate’s Degree from Estherville Jr. College and graduated from Mankato State College in 1971 with a BS and MS in Theatre Arts.  He moved to St. Joseph, MO in 1971.  On June 9, 1973 he married Kendra S. (Meyer) Minnick and together had three children.

      Terry led a full and colorful life.  He taught at Central High School where he was the originator of KCHS Radio.   He was an instructor at Highland Community College in the extension program where he taught in the Federal Military Prison at Ft. Leavenworth. 

      Being the incredibly talented and charismatic person he was, he also pursued many other interests.  Other employment included Manager at Bedell Guitar Company in Spencer and Spirit Lake Iowa, Continuity and Production at KFEQ Radio, Sales Executive for Eagle Radio, and Sales Executive for KMRN. 

      Throughout his life, many endeavors revolved around music and theatre arts.  He was Master of Ceremonies at the Miss Iowa Pageant, designer and originator of the Kracker Jack Children’s Theatre Company, director and actor in hundreds of plays and pageants in the United States, Iceland and Greenland.  He performed with a three member group called The Bunch whose album “Now That Summer’s Gone” was placed in the Iowa Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame.  The Bunch frequently played as the opening act for Peter, Paul, and Mary.  He also performed with the Gene Terry Trio and HUGS Incorporated — a group similar to The Smothers Brothers.

      He owned and operated a variety of businesses including Holligraph Productions, ShirtWorks, A Step Beyond, Cobblestone Theatre Co., The Bone Factory, The Hills of East, and Calendar Club.

      Terry is survived by his wife of 37 years, Kendra; his son, Tyson Terrill and his girlfriend Erica Ricker, Kansas City, MO; his daughter and her husband, Autumn Leah and Collin Dahlberg, Liberty, MO; 4 grandchildren Jordan Davis, Collin Davis, Nyla Dahlberg, and Austin Dahlberg; 2 brothers and their wives, Donald (Sue), Stevens Point, WI and Richard (Judy), St. Joseph, MO. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Upon passing, Terry joins his daughter Dominique and his parents.

      Services:  3:00 P.M. Friday, Wyatt Park Baptist, 2902 N Leonard Rd, St. Joseph, MO 64506. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.  The Family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Memorial gifts may be made to the family in care of Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.  Mr. Minnick will be removed from Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory to arrive at the church one hour prior to the service.

Mark V. Evans

1941-2012

      Mark V. Evans, 70, St. Joseph, Missouri died Monday, February 20, 2012 at a local healthcare facility. 

      He was born April 5, 1941 to Floyd Lee and Isabelle Katherine (Bickett) Evans in St. Joseph, Missouri.

      Mark was an artist.

      He was a member of Boy Scouts and Ham Radio Club.

      He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary; brother, Dan; nieces and nephews.

      Survivors:  sister, Carol Evans, Gaithersburg, Maryland; several nieces and nephews.

      Graveside Services and Interment:  10:00 A.M. Saturday, Mount Olivet Cemetery.  The Family suggests memorial gifts to Food for Kids, 1325 Mitchell Avenue, St. Joseph, Missouri or Judas House, care of Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.

Joyce E. Holmes

1943-2012

      Joyce E. “Joycee” Holmes, 68, St. Joseph, Missouri died Monday, February 20, 2012 at a local healthcare facility. 

      She was born October 17, 1943 to Frank W. and Anna J. (Minton) Thompson in St. Joseph, Missouri.

      She married Lloyd Holmes October 11, 1988, who preceded her in death.

      Mrs. Holmes worked as a waitress at D&G Restaurant for forty years.

      Joyce enjoyed Bingo and activities at the Joyce Ray Patterson Center, including dancing and cards. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and playing Croquet.

      She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; niece, Sandy Goltz.

      Survivors: her children, Tim Donahoo, Debbie Kearney and Mark Donahoo; sister, Marilyn Horner; brothers, Kenneth D. Thompson and Richard Thompson; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

      Services:  Celebration of Joyce’s Life 10:00 A.M. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park  Cemetery.  The Family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory where friends may call after 5:00 P.M. Thursday.
