Shirley Ann (Cochell) Payne

1933-2015

Shirley Ann (Cochell) Payne, 82, Show Low, Arizona, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2015 with her family in attendance at her home in Show Low, Arizona.

She was born April 17, 1933, in Mercer, Missouri. She lived in, and around, St. Joseph most of her life until moving to Arizona about 20 years ago.

This is not the first obituary written for her. The first was published in 1938, at age 5, after an accidental shotgun discharge to her head. The attending physician put her right eye back in its socket, wrapped up her head, and predicted her to pass by that next morning. That prediction proved to be 77 years premature. She ultimately discovered relief from lifelong head pain in the higher altitudes of Arizon’a White Mountains.

We are all eternally grateful for the honor to have known and loved her. Rest in well-deserved peace Mom.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Charles; three children; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Farewell Services 3:00 P.M. Monday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery.  The family will gather with friends 1:30 to 2:30 P.M. Monday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.  Online guest book and obituary at www.meierhoffer.com.
