Floyd Harrison Jones

Floyd Harrison Jones, 84, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away at his home surrounded by his family, Wednesday, January 17, 2018.
Floyd was born January 31, 1933, to James and Ethel Jones in Osceola, Missouri. After moving to Nodaway, Missouri, he graduated from Savannah High School in 1952. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1952-1956. He worked for Rock Island Railroad and Rainbow Bakery. Floyd later graduated from Guard Business College. He and his brothers owned the Golden Shield Home Improvement Company.
On September 1, 1961, he married the love of his life, Patricia “Pat” Gillette. Together, this marriage brought three children, Kimberly Ann Jones Shewmaker (John), Randall Harrison Jones (Shablix), and Mark Curtis Jones (Patricia).
He retired in 1995 after working for the St. Joseph Fire Department for 33 years. Floyd served every position, driver, captain, secretary to Chief Jesse, chief of fire prevention, and fire marshal. He was a part of the Firefighter Local #77 and is the longest tenured and oldest paid member.
Floyd was a member of Green Valley Baptist Church for more than 40 years. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Post #1668, Burning Lodge #150 A.F. & A.M., and American Legion Post #359. Floyd served on numerous city boards and was very active in the community, and Floyd was proud of Pat serving on the city council.
He enjoyed camping, fishing, and attending grandchildren’s sporting events. In his younger days, he coached Lions League boy’s baseball. He lived and loved life to the fullest.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Capitola Patty Giseburt; and brother, Harold L. Jones.
Survivors include his wife; children; six grandchildren, Tyler Shewmaker (Janessa), Spencer Jones; McKenzie Jones, Brooklyn Jones, Jacob Carrel, and Cecilia Palmer; six great-grandchildren, Jordan Shewmaker, Tayley Shewmaker, Kooper Jones, Berkeley Jones, Eli Jones, and Ellie Montroy; siblings, Mary Rethemeyer, St. Joseph, Norman Jones, St. Joseph, and Bill Jones, Liberty, Missouri.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the V.A. Home Health Care staff and Mosaic Life Care Hospice.
Farewell Services 10:00 A.M. Monday, Green Valley Baptist Church. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 2:00 to 5:00 P.M. Sunday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
