Harvey W. McDowell
1935-2017

Harvey W. McDowell, 82, Easton, Missouri, passed away Saturday, November 25, 2017, at LaVerna Village in Savannah, MO due to complications from Alzheimer’s.
He was born on March 5, 1935 in St. Joseph, MO to William E. and Thelma (Lower) McDowell; he lived in St. Joseph until moving to Easton in 1972.
Harvey married Charlotte Ann Dykes November 5, 1954 and they just celebrated 63 years of marriage.
He graduated from Benton High School Class of 1953.
Harvey joined the Missouri Air National Guard his junior year of high school and went full time in 1955; retiring June 2, 1985. He played fast pitch softball for many teams in St. Joseph including the Air Guard. Harvey loved to bowl and was in bowling leagues his whole adult life. Once retiring, he continued to bowl and enjoyed golfing. In 1995, they moved to Grove Oklahoma on Grand Lake, returning to Easton in 2009. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Church. Harvey loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He also enjoyed raising horses. His grandchildren have fond memories of spending time with grandpa riding “Old Red”.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers, Charles and Eddie “Spec” McDowell.
Survivors include his wife; 4 children, Ronda Mann (Roger), Jennifer O’Brien (Terry), Sally McDowell, David McDowell; 8 grandchildren, Jesse Mann, Joshua Mann (Melanie), Rachel Pflugradt (Derek), Shannon O’Brien, Abbi Caribardi (Danny), James O’Brien, Everett McDowell (Kierstin), William McDowell (Haylee); 9 great grandchildren, Tucker, Zachary, Ella, Emma, Alexander, Declan, Uriah, Oliver, and Hayes.
The family would like to thank the staff at LaVerna Village in Savannah for their kind and compassionate care during Harvey’s stay.
Farewell Services 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Mount Auburn Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Flowers are appreciated and for those wishing to make a contribution, the family requests they be made to Alzheimer’s Association Northwest MO.
