Jack Lawrence McBee, Sr.

It is with sadness that we announce the death of Jack L. McBee, Sr. who passed away Sunday, April 8, 2018 of a stroke.
Jack was born at home, the 12th of 13 children to Olen and Josephine McBee on May 29, 1935. He arrived during the depression and grew up during WWII.
He graduated from Lafayette High School in 1954 as a four year varsity letterman. Jack married the homecoming queen, his wife of 63 years, Sharon Kay McBee on July 2, 1955.
He began his working career as a Draftsman at LFM in Atchison and worked his way up from Draftsman at St. Joseph Structural Steel to VP of sales. In 1984 he began working for Herzog Contracting service as a plant manager for Herzog Red-i-Mix Concrete and performed other duties within the company.
Mr. McBee served on various civic and community groups and boards throughout the area and at his church, Green Valley Baptist. Jack was especially fond of his time serving as a member of the 139th Airlift Wing of the Missouri Air National Guard during the late 60’s. He held the rank of Load Master Sergeant on the KC-97 Stratofreighter and loved the opportunity to serve and travel the world during his service.
He lived in St. Joseph his entire life, and spent the majority of his time working hard, providing for his family and getting together with friends at every opportunity. Jack was never a stranger to anyone and always lit up the room at any event.
Family gatherings were always ongoing with his friends especially his family which consisted of 10 sisters, Elaine, Juanita, Gladys, Georgia, Thelma, Mickey, Audrey, Doris, Helen and Patricia and two brothers, Claude and Ralph.
He spent a great many hours traveling and assisting his wife Sharon, with her dance performances in St. Joseph, Krug Park Bowl and in venue’s throughout Northwest Missouri (Sharon Kay’s Dance Studio).
Jack is preceded in death by his mother and father; and 12 siblings.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Kay McBee; son and wife, Jack L. McBee, Jr and Susan (Schoen) McBee; grandchildren, Scott McBee, Kristyl (McBee) House, Brittany (McBee) Parn; and 7 great-grandchildren.
Farewell Services 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to the Salvation Army. Online guest book and obituary at
