James “Jim” Sharp

James “Jim” Sharp, 82, DeKalb, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at a local care center.
He was born June 23, 1935 in DeKalb, Missouri to Paul Henderson Sharp and Lucille Anna (Cone) Sharp.
Jim played 4 years of college basketball and was a starter for St. Joseph Junior College and Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville. He still holds the record for the most points (38) scored in one game at DeKalb High School. After college he joined the Army Reserves and later married Shirley June Bouge on December 7, 1958 at Hyde Park Methodist Church. They would have celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary next month. Jim was a member of DeKalb Christian Church and served on the church board, school board, and MFA board in past years.
In 2013, Buchanan County Western District Commissioner Ron Hook presented a plaque to Jim naming the Jim Sharp Bridge located close to Jim’s residence near DeKalb, Missouri. In 1994 Jim received the R.A. McPheeters award for soil conservation.
He was a lifelong farmer, enjoyed watching all sports on TV, spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Lucille Sharp.
Survivors include wife, Shirley; son, Scotty Sharp (Ruth); daughters, Debbie Carter and Lisa Lawson (Steve); grandchildren, Angela Leininger (Brandon), Merry Sharp, Stevie Lawson, Katharine Sharp, Patti Lawson and Matthew Sharp; great-grandchildren, Boyd and Brynn Leininger; sisters, Eunice McConnell and Doris Shelton; numerous nieces and nephews.
Farewell Services 10:00 A.M. Saturday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations to Mosaic Life Care Hospice or DeKalb Christian Church. Online guest book and obituary at
