Joseph R. Carriger

Joseph R. Carriger, 64, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2017, at his home.
He was born April 14, 1953, to Millie Ardell and Jennie Langum in St. Joseph.
Joseph married Eva Williams on March 13, 1978. She survives of the home.
He was a foreman for Parks & Recreation for 37 years. Joseph was also employed as a supervisor at Pasco Steel, a sales associate for Montgomery Ward, a security officer at the state building in downtown St. Joseph, and a security officer for the Kansas City Chiefs for more than 20 years. Joseph was also Santa Claus for the St. Joseph Optima Club.
He enjoyed singing, performing, football, collecting Chiefs memorabilia, vacationing in Florida and Alabama, taking care of his grandchildren, and spending time with family and friends. Joseph was a comedian, always making people laugh. He was a dedicated husband and loved his wife with all his heart. Joseph was truly the cornerstone of his family.
Above all, Joseph was strong in his Christian faith and loved the Lord. He enjoyed telling people what God had done for him and was a living testimony of God’s great works. He attended New Hope Missionary Church with his wife where he worked in the men’s ministry, man-to-man outreach, male chorus, and mission outreach.
He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughters, Samara Birdsong-Carriger and SaRiya Spears; brothers, Harry and Johnny Carriger; sisters, Virginia Langum and Bereatha Kay Wright; uncles, Hubert Langum, Harry Langum, and John Hughes; and aunt, Virginia Hughes.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Tahisa Carriger, Independence, Missouri, and LaTasha Carriger, St. Joseph; grandsons, Jaxon and Jarell Carriger; brothers, Charles Carriger (Mary Ann), St. Joseph, Hubert Carriger (Janice), St. Joseph, Larry Carriger (Maggie), Houston, Texas, William Carriger, and Andre Carriger, Charleston, South Carolina; sisters, Linda Henderson, Elaine Clark, and Kimberly Carriger; goddaughter, Daelyn Bullock; extended brothers, Steve Kelly and Benjamin Williamson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Farewell Services 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 18th, Word of Life Church. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. Saturday, November 18th, Word of Life Church. Flowers are appreciated and for those wishing to make a contribution, the family requests they be made to the American Heart Association.
