Obituary for Larry W. Danner

Larry W. Danner
1946-2018

Larry Wayne Danner, age 72, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones on May 12, 2018. He defied the odds for as long as he could, and his 20 month battle with small cell lung cancer has ended and he is at rest.
Larry was the youngest of seven children, born on February 17, 1946 to George Richard and Flossie Opal (Weese) Danner, in St. Joseph, Missouri. He attended Central High School. On June 26, 1965, he married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Ann Mueller. She survives of the home.
Together, they had two children: Staci (Pete) Gray of St. Joseph and Tim (Julee Kennedy) Danner, of Olathe, Kansas and five cherished grandchildren: Zachary, Alec and Mitchell Gray and Jacob and Kaitlynn Danner. He also leaves behind his two faithful companions, his Yorkies: Holly and Annie.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents along with siblings and spouses: Woodrow (Bonnie), Donald (Ann), George (Julia) Danner; brother-in-law, Jim Wilson and mother-in-law, Sara Mueller. He is survived by his sisters: Beverly (John) Lewis, Mae (Donald) Clinton and Shirley Wilson, along with a sister-in-law, Sandi Baker (Dwayne Bressem) and his father-in-law, Harry (Jack) Edward Mueller; all of St. Joseph, Missouri.
Larry worked at Quaker Oats for 32 years until the plant closed. After that, he and his wife found a new hobby of rehabbing furniture. They built a very nice business called Shabby Creations, which they operated out of their home and sold their furniture in downtown Kansas City. There, they made special relationships and friendships with many people at Bella Patina. Larry was a member of the Quarter Century Club at Quaker Oats and of the Eagle’s Lodge #49. He was a well-respected softball and baseball coach to his children’s teams while they were growing up and he loved to work in his vegetable and flower gardens in his spare time. Larry will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor; his grandkids and many others were never sure if he was telling the truth or pulling their leg. He had a deep love and pride for his family and he never met a stranger. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events along with supporting Kansas State athletics and the Kansas City Royals…as was obvious by his daily apparel.
Always the devoted K.C. Royals fan, Larry has requested that those who’d like to attend his services wearing Royals gear or team colors, are encouraged to do so. In lieu of flowers, contributions for lung cancer research would be welcomed at: https://www.supportalcf.org/InLovingMemory/LarryDanner
Or mailed to: BJALCF, 1100 Industrial Road #1, San Carlos, CA 94070 or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Larry’s family would especially like to thank Dr. AJ (Rony Abou Jawde) and Lauren Short for their endless amounts of compassionate care and concern along with all of the nurses at The Cancer Center and the Mosaic Oncology Unit.
Farewell Services 10:00 A.M. Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
