Lenore M. Hertel

Lenore Martha (Foss) Hertel, 89, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, May 18, 2018 at Mosaic Life Care.
She was born September 9, 1928 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Anton and Wilma (Ausen) Foss.
Lenore moved to St. Joseph, Missouri in 1944. She worked at Kinnison, Woolworth and Bellas Hess.
Lenore married Norman B. Hertel September 20, 1947 at St. Peter Lutheran Church. The couple had four children from this union. They celebrated 70 years and seven months together. Theirs was a true love story built on faith.
She loved her Lord and enjoyed participating in many church functions. Lenore was active in the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League serving in the capacity of Chairman of the Ruth Circle, Christian Growth Committee, Hospitality Committee, taught vacation Bible school, sang in the choir and was a member of the Adult Bible Class. She was also a sponsor for the Walther League and Y-Teens.
Lenore was a kind and generous person with her time and love. She was always concerned about others. Lenore enjoyed writing poetry, working puzzles, playing board games with her children, sewing lap robes for residents in nursing homes, cooking and baking. She decorated scrumptious cakes for all family occasions.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Hertel, who passed April 28, 2018; parents, daughter, Janet Hertel; son, Bryant Hertel; brothers, Edgar, Eldo and Wesley Foss; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen Ruhnke (Larry), and Gail Hertel; four grandchildren, Tonya Prater (Farryl), Tasha Goldesberry, Damon Powell (Crystal) and Michael Hertel; six great-grandchildren, Justin Nolan, Adrian Nolan, Dakota McQuiston, Brittanie Harrington (Keyton), Bryson Goldesberry, and Sydney Powell; five great-great grandchildren, Brayden, Caden, and Rylen Nolan, Kaevan Harrington, Cyrus Hatfield and another great-grandson due in August to Brittanie and Keyton Harrington; two step-great-grandchildren, Chris McQuiston and Shannon Gilpin; brother, Vernon Foss, Livonia, MI; and daughter-in-law, Julie Hertel.
Farewell Services 10:00 A.M. Friday, St. Peter Lutheran Church. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
