Richard L. Creager, Sr.

Richard L. Creager, Sr., 74, formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Friday, May 18, 2018, at his daughter’s home in Kansas City, Missouri with her by his side.
He was born in St. Joseph, Missouri June 10, 1943 to Raymond and Virginia (Smith) Creager.
Richard grew up in Elwood, Kansas and graduated in 1961 from Elwood High School. He was a member of the Boys Scouts of America. Richard attended Junior College in St. Joseph.
He had a passion for working on and building cars, trucks and dune buggies. In 1965 his father’s job relocated his family to Detroit, Michigan. Richard worked at a machine shop, Bob Sellers Pontiac and had a 1942 Chevy Coupe he would race at Milan Speedway in Michigan. In 1973 Richard returned to St. Joseph where he worked at Leaverton’s as lead mechanic from 1973 until he retired in 1997. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Scottish Rite and a former Deacon at Eureka Valley Baptist Church. In 2014 Richard changed his faith to Seventh Day Adventist and became a member of Independence Seventh Day Adventist in Independence, Missouri.
Richard loved fishing, time with his family and Chiefs football.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Drevon; great-grandson, Shamus; son-in-law, Aaron “Bubby” Moore; and brother, Raymond Creager.
Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Ellen (Myers) Creager; son, Richard Creager, Jr. (Dianna); daughter, Kemberly Creager (Andre’ McDonald); step-daughters, Judy Moore, Linda Hafner Dysart, Diana Hafner; step-son, Randy Hafner; mother of his children, Susan Stallings; nieces, Melanie and Michelle; nephew, Shawn; two great-nieces; 2 great-nephews, all of California; 23 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; cousins, friends and special friends, Anita and Scott Winn whom helped his daughter care for him.
Farewell Services 1:00 P.M. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Online guest book and obituary at
