William H. “Bill” Guenther

William H. “Bill” Guenther, 90, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, February 21, 2018, at his home.
He was born December 5, 1927, to William Henry, Sr., and Minnie Louisa (Kilver) Guenther in St. Joseph. Bill graduated from St. Joseph’s Central High School in 1945 and then joined the U.S. Army Signal Corps as a cryptologist. After, he graduated from the University of Missouri with a bachelor of business administration. While there, he was a part of Delta Tau Delta fraternity.
In 1950, Bill joined Artcrafts Engraving Co., where he mastered the process camera, sales, etching and commercial photography before becoming CEO of the company (over 65 years total).
Bill married Elaine Carol Musgrove January 2, 1955. She survives of the home. Together Bill and Elaine have guided Artcrafts through decades of technological change in the photoengraving industry.
Bill touched many lives, in many ways. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, St. Joseph, where he was in the choir for more than 60 years, Junior Council president, and Kappa Class president. Bill was also a member and past president of Toastmasters; a Heartland Health lay chaplain; a Living Community spiritual volunteer for 12 years; the George Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund founder; a member and past chairman of the Republican Central Committee; a Republican candidate for the Missouri State Senate; a member of Du Club, the Order of St. Luke, the American Legion, the Optimist Club, the St. Joseph Junior Chamber of Commerce, and the St. Joseph Community Theater.
His innovative flower art, utilizing only flowers from his garden, received numerous art awards.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Louise Fuehrer and Blanche Anderson.
Survivors also include his children, Glen Guenther (Karen), St. Charles, Missouri, Ann Guenther Sherman, Long Grove, Illinois, and Max Guenther (Tammy), Honolulu, Hawaii; grandchildren, Chandra, Chris, Nathaniel, and Nicole; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Farewell Services 1:00 P.M. Friday, First Lutheran Church, St. Joseph. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will gather with friends 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home.
