History

The Meierhoffer Organization includes funeral, crematory, cemetery and pre-arrangement services in several communities throughout Northwest Missouri. Established in 1894 by Reinhold Meierhoffer, Meierhoffer Undertaking Company was located in St. Joseph, Missouri. Walter Meierhoffer, Sr. constructed a second facility in St. Joseph and eventually merged with Fleeman & Son Mortuary in 1947 becoming Meierhoffer-Fleeman Funeral Home. Walter Meierhoffer, Jr. expanded the Meierhoffer-Fleeman facility two times over the next twenty years and was joined in 1972 by his son, Michael Meierhoffer, who currently serves as President. Scott Meierhoffer and Todd Meierhoffer, the fifth generation of the Meierhoffer family to serve this organization joined the company in the 1990′s.

Pre-Arranged Management Services was founded in 1984 to provide advanced planning for funeral arrangements for the public. Today known as the Family Service Group, this company provides the sales force to pre-plan and pre-fund, funeral, cemetery, cremation and monument sales.

Currently five other funeral service facilities are part of our organization. Pettijohn & Crawford Family Funeral Service of Mound City, Missouri was acquired in 1999. Cox Funeral Home in Plattsburg, Missouri was acquired in 2000 and the Bailey Funeral Homes in Lathrop, Polo and Holt, Missouri were added in 2002. These funeral homes are known as Bailey & Cox Family Funeral Service.

In 2001 the Meierhoffer Family purchased St. Joseph Memorial Park in St. Joseph, Missouri.

The organization now provides a licensed and trained staff, facilities and equipment to care for a full range of funeral, cremation, cemetery services, pre-arrangement, pet cremation, flower and gift shop and mausoleums.

In November 2004 the current facility located at 5005 Frederick Boulevard in St. Joseph, Missouri was opened bringing all facets of our business into one state-of-the-art facility. The facility includes a community room with catering availability, children’s room, flat-screen monitors and drop-down projection screen for video tributes, cremation viewing room and in-house floral and gift shop.

The management philosophy of our organization is to provide continuing leadership in people, facilities and products relating to funeral, cremation and cemetery services. Equally important is providing leadership in the volunteer and religious sector of the community with direct participation through contributions of time and/or financial support. This philosophy will take the company well into the future on the leading edge. The long-standing motto . . . “Where more is offered in a nicer way . . .” still applies.
